Titan of the Alps
Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco is the highest peak of the Alps, stretching across the border of France and Italy. The peak hosts millions of tourists each year within the numerous resorts located on the valleys below, and has also become a transport route ever since the completion of the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
The peak was first conquered on August 8, 1786 by Jacques Balmat and the doctor Michel Paccard. Their trip is considered as being the start of modern mountaineering and ever since this crest has been a destination for all extreme sports fans.
The mountain can be explored by foot or by sky. Hiking trips take place in July and August and it is not a difficult course from a technical point of view, the danger is represented by the length of the course, improper preparations or lack of proper training.
The winter trip up the mountain requires experience as it is mainly glacier skiing. Available from March to June, the expedition requires a guide for those who don’t know the path.
Although it was matter of discord between France and Italy, as they could not settle on the border, Mont Blanc is now split evenly between the two countries, as their common border passes right over the peak. As for ways of going across “The White Lady”, one can choose between a cabin car passing over from France to Italy, or the tunnel that passes through the mountain.
